Independent ETC
Independent ETC is typed on WBS; calculated ETC uses the WBS technique

What a planner means
Estimate to Complete (ETC) on an activity or WBS is calculated. Oracle: either Remaining Total Cost, or PF × (BAC − EV), depending on the Earned Value Estimate-to-Complete Technique on that activity’s WBS. BAC comes from the project baseline.
Independent ETC Labor Units and Independent ETC Total Cost are user-entered estimates on the WBS or project. They are a separate forecast, not the calculated ETC column.
REST lists the ETC techniques as: ETC = Remaining Cost for Activity; PF = 1; PF = Custom Value; PF = 1 / CPI; PF = 1 / (CPI × SPI). Custom PF uses ev_etc_user_value; ETC = PF × (BAC − BCWP). That list does not include Independent ETC. Do not treat Independent ETC as the technique unless you have a later Oracle page that says so.
Performance % Complete is a different WBS setting (ev_compute_type): Activity % Complete, 0/100, 50/50, Custom, WBS Milestones, or Activity % Complete Using Resource Curves. See WBS milestones if that option is on.
XER
On PROJWBS (Oracle labels):
| Column | Oracle label |
|---|---|
indep_remain_work_qty | Independent ETC Labor Units |
indep_remain_total_cost | Independent ETC Total Cost |
ev_etc_compute_type | Earned Value Estimate-to-Complete Technique |
ev_etc_user_value | Earned Value Performance Factor |
ev_compute_type | Earned Value Percent Complete Technique |
ev_user_pct | Earned Value Percent Complete |
Stored enum tokens for the technique columns are unverified. Do not invent ETC_Remain codes.
No TASK Independent ETC columns on the project map.
Microsoft Project
MSP EAC / ETC follow its own EV method (status date, % complete or physical). There is no Independent ETC field. Do not map indep_remain_* to Remaining Cost.
Don't
- Treat Independent ETC as the calculated ETC or as Remaining Cost.
- Put Independent ETC on TASK.
- Invent
ev_etc_compute_typetokens. - Treat Performance % Complete technique as the ETC technique.
