Project Effort-Driven
Effort-driven yes/no when adding a resource

What the field is
Microsoft: Effort Driven is Yes/No. When Yes, "Project keeps the total task work at its current value, regardless of how many resources are assigned to the task. When new resources are assigned, remaining work is distributed to them."
What happens when you add a resource
Applies after the first assignment. First assignment sets work; later add/remove redistributes that work.
- Effort-driven on, Fixed Units: more people → shorter duration, same total work.
- Effort-driven on, Fixed Duration: more people → less work each, duration unchanged.
- Effort-driven off: adding people can increase total work (duration need not shrink).
- Fixed Work: always effort-driven. Cannot turn it off.
- Summary tasks and inserted projects cannot be effort-driven.
Microsoft example: four-week drawing task, effort-driven Yes, assign four drafters → one week. Client-review task that must stay one week → Effort Driven No.
Default for new tasks is a Project Options setting (NewTasksEffortDriven in MSPDI).
P6
P6 does not have this yes/no. Duration type + units/time behave differently. Do not emit EffortDriven=true as a P6 equivalent without a stated mapping rule.
