Recalculate Assignment Costs Rewrites Costs from Current Rates

Recalculate Assignment Costs rewrites assignment costs from current rates; not Calculate schedule; Override skipped

P6 Resources tab. Assignment columns include units and costs.
These are assignment rows. Recalculate assignment costs writes cost from units and rate, not dates.

What a planner means

Recalculate Assignment Costs is a command (Tools > Recalculate Assignment Costs in Professional; Actions on the Activities page in EPPM). It rewrites assignment costs so they match the current resource or role Price/Unit. Oracle: run it when any of the five price-per-unit slots changes on a resource or role already assigned, or when dates move and a time-varying rate applies (Professional: activity cost uses the activity start date). It is not Schedule, not Apply Actuals, and not Store Period Performance.

Rate Type / Rate Source is which price is used. Recalc is when those prices are copied back onto assignment costs. Changing Rate Type recopies Price/Unit and recalculates cost if units and costs are linked. That is not this command. See Rate Types Are Five Named Price/Unit Slots.

Oracle: the utility ignores any assignment whose Rate Source is Override. The typed Price/Unit is not overwritten. Optional dialog: Synchronize overtime factor while recalculating costs.

Required project option: Link actual to date and actual this period units and costs (Project Details, Calculations tab). Without it you cannot run the command. Professional privilege: View Resource and Role Costs/Financials. EPPM: the privilege is defined in P6. The run applies to currently open projects only. EPPM can also schedule it as a service. You may be prompted after another user changes prices.

Related options (not this command): Recalculate assignment costs after scheduling (Schedule Options, General) and Recalculate assignment costs after leveling (Level Resources). See Resource Leveling Delays Work Until Units Fit.

XER

Recalculate Assignment Costs is a command. It is not an XER table. Do not invent a RECALC / ASGNCOST %T.

Oracle labeled cost_qty_recalc_flag Cost Qty Recalc Flag. Oracle did not say that column is Recalculate Assignment Costs, Recalculate assignment costs after scheduling, or Calculate costs from units. Do not invent that it is.

act_this_per_link_flag is the required Calculations-tab option (same flag Store Period needs). cost_qty_link_flag is the assignment Calculate costs from units link — not the command.

The cited SCHEDOPTIONS map has no column for Recalculate assignment costs after scheduling. Do not invent one.

Microsoft Project

Desktop Project calculates assignment Cost as Actual Cost + Remaining Cost. Remaining cost starts as remaining work × the resource cost rate. Cost uses Standard Rate, Overtime Rate, Per Use Cost, Cost accrual, and assigned work. There is no Recalculate Assignment Costs command. Automatic work × rate is not this P6 job. Do not map them as the same command. Do not claim MPXJ can write a real MPP.

Don't

  • Treat Recalculate Assignment Costs as Calculate schedule, Apply Actuals, or Store Period.
  • Treat Rate Type / Rate Source as the recalc command (which price vs when costs rewrite).
  • Treat Override Price/Unit as updated by the utility (Oracle: skipped).
  • Invent that PROJECT.cost_qty_recalc_flag is a named UI option.
  • Invent a recalc table, or a SCHEDOPTIONS after-scheduling recalc column.
  • Map this command to MSP automatic Cost and call them the same.
  • Claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.
