Currencies
Currencies is Admin > Currencies the currency dictionary; not User Preferences Currency; CURRTYPE is currencies.md

What a planner means
Currencies is the currency-dictionary dialog. Oracle Admin Menu: "Opens the Currencies dialog box. Use the Currencies dialog box to set up the currencies you want to use for costs." Enabled when "All." Corresponding toolbar: Administrator Toolbar. How-to pages: Admin, Currencies.
Oracle Administrator Toolbar: "Opens the Currencies dialog box. Use the Currencies dialog box to set up the currencies you want to use for costs." Menu command: Admin > Currencies. The Currencies icon does not display by default. Toolbar tip: "The icons on this toolbar are available to all users; however, your ability to perform any administrative function is determined by the security privileges enabled in your assigned security profile."
Oracle Currencies dialog box: "Use the Currencies dialog box to set up the currencies you want to use for costs. To display this dialog box, choose Admin, Currencies."
Oracle Currencies (P6 Professional Only): "You can specify the monetary unit or base currency used to store costs for all projects in the database, as well as the monetary unit or view currency used to display costs in windows and dialog boxes."
This dialog is the dictionary (base currency + additional view-currency types). It is not Edit > User Preferences Currency tab (which currency this user views). See User Preferences. It is not Admin Preferences, Admin Categories, Users, or Security Profiles. Stored-cost vs view-currency math, and the CURRTYPE column list, live in Costs Are Stored in the Base Currency. Do not treat this note as a second field catalog.
Not the view-currency tab. Oracle Select a view currency: Edit, User Preferences → Currency tab → "Select the currency in which to view cost data." That pick is display. This dialog defines the rows that tab can pick.
Who may edit — Oracle's pages disagree; quote both. Do not pick a winner.
- Currencies (overview): "Only a user with Admin Superuser privileges can change the base currency and define additional view currency types."
- Global Privilege Definitions: Add/Edit/Delete Currencies — "Determines whether the profile will enable users to create, modify, and remove currencies data."
Do not collapse Add/Edit/Delete Currencies (Professional privilege list) and EPPM Edit Currency (below).
Professional dialog fields Oracle names
Oracle Currencies dialog box names these top elements (quote Oracle):
- Display Options bar — "Click to search for a currency or print the list of currencies."
- Base — "Indicates the currency used to store costs in the database. You cannot mark or clear this checkbox. The base currency can be edited but not deleted. The base currency ID, name, and symbol default to U.S. dollars. The exchange rate for the base currency is always 1.0."
- Currency ID — "The identifiers for all defined currencies."
- Currency Name — "The names of all defined currencies."
- Currency Symbol — "The symbol used to identify each defined currency."
- Exchange Rate — "The exchange rate between the selected currency and the base currency."
Buttons Oracle named: Add ("Adds a new currency."); Delete ("Deletes the selected currency.").
Oracle: "You cannot delete the base currency; however, you can change its ID, name, and symbol to that of a different currency to use as your base. For example, to change the base currency to euros, select the base currency, type the ID for euros, enter euros as the name, and specify the currency symbol used to identify euros."
The lower portion is two tabs (quote Oracle's printed names):
- General tab - Currencies dialog box
- Appearance tab - Currencies dialog box
General — Oracle General tab fields:
- Currency ID — "The identifier for the selected currency. You can type a new ID."
- Currency name — "The name of the selected currency. You can type a new name."
- Currency symbol — "The symbol used to identify the selected currency. You can type a new symbol."
- Exchange rate — "The current exchange rate for the selected currency. You can type a new value."
Quote both Currency Name (dialog list) and Currency name (General tab), and Exchange Rate / Exchange rate. Do not collapse them.
Oracle Note on that tab: "You cannot change the exchange rate of the base currency."
Appearance — Oracle Appearance tab fields:
- Decimal symbol — "The symbol used to separate whole values from decimal values in the currency display: a period or a comma. You can select a new symbol."
- Number of decimal places — "The number of decimal places to include in the currency display: 0, 1, or 2. You can select a new number."
- Digit grouping symbol — "The symbol used to group digits in the currency display: a comma, period, or dash. You can select a new symbol."
- Universal Currency Symbol (heading Oracle printed)
- Positive currency format — "The format used to display the currency value as positive. You can select a new format."
- Negative currency format — "The format used to display the currency value as negative. You can select a new format."
Oracle did not print the stored positive/negative format tokens on these pages. Those tokens are unverified. See Costs Are Stored in the Base Currency. Do not invent them here.
Add a view currency — Oracle: Admin, Currencies → Add → General tab: "type an ID that clearly identifies the currency type"; "Type the currency's name"; "Enter the symbol used to identify the currency"; "Enter the global exchange rate for the currency." Appearance tab: decimal separator (example 500.5 or 500,5); digit-group separator (example 300,000 or 300-000); decimal places "none (70), one (70.1), or two (70.14)"; "the format used to display positive and negative currency values."
Define a base currency — Oracle: "The base currency, by default, is U.S. dollars. The Base check box indicates the currency used to store cost data. You cannot mark or clear this check box, but to change the base currency you can reconfigure the base currency to represent your required base currency." Admin, Currencies → select the current base → General tab → "Type the new ID, name, and symbol over the existing values, to define the new base currency." Then Appearance (same separator / places / format steps). Tip: "If you want to view costs in the old base currency, you will need to add it back to the list of available currencies." Quote both checkbox (dialog list) and check box (define page). Do not collapse them.
Oracle did not say that relabeling the base row converts stored costs. Do not invent that. Install caution (EPPM database create): "You cannot change the base currency once projects begin." Professional Currencies note: "If you are upgrading from a previous version, you should set up the base currency in the new version before you start adding and changing projects." See Costs Are Stored in the Base Currency.
Exchange rate Oracle printed (do not invent more):
- "The exchange rate for the base currency is always 1.0."
- "If you select a different currency than the base currency to view costs, the base currency value is multiplied times the current exchange rate for the view currency to calculate the values displayed in cost fields."
- Example Oracle printed: base U.S. Dollars, view Euros, "€0.75 = $1" → "$10 stored in the database is displayed as €7.5"; "if you enter €7.5 in a cost field, it is stored in the database as $10."
- "When you enter values in cost fields, they are always displayed in the view currency."
- Add: "global exchange rate." General: "current exchange rate" — "You can type a new value" (not the base).
Oracle did not print date-effective rates, a rate history, or a recost-on-rate-change rule on these pages. Do not invent them.
EPPM — Enterprise Data Currencies, not Admin > Currencies
Oracle About Enterprise Data: "Enterprise data is a defined series of application-wide parameters and values that apply to all projects." Working with Enterprise Data Global: "For example, currencies, financial periods, and timesheet periods."
Oracle Currencies Page: "Use this page to configure the monetary unit or base currency used to store cost data for all projects in the database. You can also add and configure monetary units on this page." Getting Here: Administration → Enterprise Data → Global → Currencies.
Oracle About Currencies (EPPM): "Currencies are the monetary units used to store costs for all projects in the database. Monetary units are stored in the database with a base currency that you select. The base currency is used to display costs in windows and dialog boxes." Then the same 1.0 / view-rate multiply, with Euros example ".75" and "10 dollars" / "7.5 Euros." "Admin Superusers and users with the 'Edit Currency' privilege can change the base currency and define additional view currency types." "When you enter values in cost and price fields, they are always displayed in the user's view currency."
Quote both Professional "cost fields" / "the view currency" and EPPM "cost and price fields" / "the user's view currency." Do not collapse them.
Fields Oracle named on the EPPM Currencies Page (quote; do not copy the Professional General / Appearance tabs onto them): ID; Name; Currency Symbol; Decimal Digits; Decimal Symbol; Digit Grouping Symbol; Exchange Rate ("The exchange rate between the selected currency and the base currency."); Negative Format; Positive Format. Analyze Data Usage columns: User Count; Resource Count. Chrome Oracle named: Add; Analyze Data Usage; Customize View; Full Screen; Print; Search; context Add / Delete / Duplicate / Fill Down; Download (Excel).
Oracle Defining a Base Currency (EPPM): "The base currency is U.S. dollars by default. The exchange rate for the base currency is always one." Select "the row that has BASE RATE in the Exchange Rate field." Double-click ID, Name, and Currency Symbol. Example Oracle printed: ID U.K., name British Pound, symbol £. Customize View for "Decimal Digits and Positive Format."
Oracle Adding a Currency: Context → Add → "Type an ID" → "Specify the appropriate values" → Save.
Do not copy Professional Admin > Currencies, Administrator Toolbar, General / Appearance tabs, Display Options bar, or Base checkbox onto EPPM Enterprise Data. Do not copy EPPM Analyze Data Usage / Duplicate / Download / BASE RATE label / Edit Currency onto this Professional dialog. Professional Currencies how-tos fetched do not say "when connected to a P6 EPPM database, do those tasks using P6." Do not invent that redirect.
XER
Admin > Currencies is an enterprise / database dialog. It is not an XER table.
Oracle's project XER data map TOC lists CURRTYPE (Currency Types). It lists no ADMINCURRENCIES, ADMIN_CURR, or CURRENCIES table. Do not invent an ADMINCURRENCIES / ADMIN_CURR %T or columns for the dialog itself.
CURRTYPE is the currency-types dictionary (the data this dialog edits). Column list and labels are in Costs Are Stored in the Base Currency. Do not re-list them here.
RSRC.curr_id is labeled Currency Name. That is a resource pointer, not this dialog. No PROJECT currency column on the cited project map. View currency is a user preference, not a project XER table. See User Preferences and Costs Are Stored in the Base Currency.
A Viewer parse of one project XER can see CURRTYPE rows if they were exported with that project. It cannot reconstruct Admin > Currencies as a separate table, and it cannot recover the planner's User Preferences Currency-tab pick from CURRTYPE.
Microsoft Project
Desktop Project has no Admin > Currencies dialog and no base/view currency pair.
Microsoft Change the currency settings for your project: File > Options > Display — Symbol, Placement, Decimal digits. "You cannot use more than one currency per project." "Before consolidating projects with different currency settings into one project file, you need to change the settings in each individual project to a common currency and update the cost values accordingly." "Changing the currency settings only affect the current project." New projects use Windows Clock and Region currency defaults.
That is one currency per project file, not a P6 dictionary with a rate-1.0 base and additional view currencies. Do not map Admin > Currencies or CURRTYPE to MSP Cost or to File > Options > Display as the same object. Do not claim MPXJ can write a real MPP.
Don't
- Treat Admin > Currencies as User Preferences Currency, as Admin Preferences, as EPPM Enterprise Data Currencies, or as a separate project-XER table.
- Invent an ADMINCURRENCIES / ADMIN_CURR XER table, or treat CURRTYPE as "the Currencies dialog" rather than the dictionary.
- Claim a Viewer reconstructed the Admin Currencies dialog from a project XER as a separate table.
- Rewrite the CURRTYPE column catalog here, or invent
pos_curr_fmt_type/neg_curr_fmt_typetokens. - Treat displayed view-currency amounts as stored costs, or invent date-effective / historical exchange rates, or treat a UI relabel of the base row as a stored-cost conversion.
- Collapse Oracle's Currency Name / Currency name, Exchange Rate / Exchange rate, checkbox / check box, Professional Add/Edit/Delete Currencies and EPPM Edit Currency, or pick a winner between Admin Superuser-only and the privilege list.
- Copy Professional Admin > Currencies / General / Appearance / Base checkbox onto EPPM Enterprise Data, or copy EPPM Analyze Data Usage / Duplicate / BASE RATE / Edit Currency onto this dialog.
- Invent an EPPM-database "do Currencies in P6" redirect that Professional Currencies pages fetched do not print.
- Map P6 Admin > Currencies to MSP File > Options > Display as the same object.
- Claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.
