Import a Tracking Layout

Import a tracking layout is View, Layout, Open, then Import

P6 EPS / Projects tree. Enterprise nodes hold projects such as EC00515.
Import a Tracking layout is a layout file. It is not File, Import of a project.

What a planner means

Import a tracking layout is Oracle Import a tracking layout. View, Layout, Open. Or Display Options bar in the Layout window, then Layout, Open. Click Import. Locate the layout, select it, then click Open. It is a how-to. It is not stored as its own table. It does not create, edit, or delete a relationship. It is not the Tracking object note, not Open a tracking layout, not Save a tracking layout, not Export a tracking layout, not Share a layout with other users, not Publish tracking layouts, not Types of tracking layouts, not Activities Show on Bottom, not EPPM copied onto Professional, and not Microsoft Project import.

Oracle does print a how-to titled Import a tracking layout. Oracle does not print a menu item named Import a tracking layout. The path that how-to prints is View, Layout, Open (or Display Options bar in the Layout window, Layout, Open), then Import. Do not invent View > Import a tracking layout.

Oracle Import a tracking layout (Professional):

  • "Choose View, Layout, Open."
  • "You can also click the Display Options bar in the Layout window and choose Layout, Open."
  • "Click Import."
  • "Locate the layout you want to import and select it, then click Open."

That how-to fetched prints Import and Open. It does not print OK, Apply, Cancel, Save, or Yes. It prints no file-dialog title, no Enterprise, Tracking, and no extension. Do not invent those on this how-to. Export prints Primavera Layout File (. PLF). This page does not. Quote Export for the extension. See Export a Tracking Layout Writes a Primavera Layout File (.plf).

The live client_help page concatenates the first two sentences as Open. You (no space after the period). Quote the sentences as printed above.

The Tracking window is a different object note. Leave Tracking as the object.

Open a tracking layout is a different how-to. That page selects a layout and clicks OK. This page clicks Import, then Open on the file. Do not collapse Import onto Open. See Open a Tracking Layout.

Export a tracking layout is a different how-to. That page clicks Export, then Save. Do not collapse them.

Save a tracking layout is a different how-to. View, Layout, Save or Save As writes the layout in P6. Do not collapse Import onto Save. See Save a Tracking Layout.

Professional vs EPPM

Professional — View, Layout, Open; or Display Options bar in the Layout window, Layout, Open; Import; locate the layout; Open.

EPPM web — the Professional how-to page is the source for this note. Do not invent an EPPM Import a tracking layout dialog. Do not copy Professional View, Layout, Open then Import onto EPPM.

Primavera Cloud is a different product. Do not copy it here.

XER

The how-to is not an XER table. Oracle’s project XER map TOC has no TRACKING / TRACK / LAYOUT table. Do not invent a view %T. Importing a tracking layout does not write TASK. Layouts travel as .plf, not as an XER table. PROJISSU.track_view_id and PROJTHRS.track_view_id are labeled Tracking Layout — a pointer on the issue/threshold, not the layout definition. A Viewer cannot reconstruct that the planner used this how-to.

Microsoft Project

Microsoft Project can import or copy a view. Do not map that as P6 Import a tracking layout or as a .plf. Do not claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.

Don't

  • Invent View > Import a tracking layout, OK, Apply, Cancel, Save, Yes, a file-dialog title, Enterprise, Tracking, or an extension on this how-to.
  • Collapse this onto the Tracking object, Open a tracking layout, Save a tracking layout, Export a tracking layout, Share a layout with other users, or Publish tracking layouts.
  • Copy Professional View, Layout, Open then Import onto EPPM.
  • Invent a TRACKING / LAYOUT XER table, or reconstruct the how-to from TASK or track_view_id.
  • Map MSP import as this how-to or as a .plf.
  • Claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.
