View Activity Relationships in the Gantt Chart
View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart is a line connecting two activity bars; not Show Relationships, Create/Edit/Delete Gantt, or Network view

What a planner means
View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart is Oracle View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart. Layout Options bar → Show on Top, Gantt Chart. "A line connecting two activity bars indicates an activity relationship." It is a how-to. It is view. It is not stored as its own table. It does not create, edit, or delete a relationship. It is not Show Relationships, not Create relationships in the Gantt Chart, not Edit relationships in the Gantt Chart, not Delete relationships in the Gantt Chart, not View activity relationships in the Activity Network, not View activity relationships in Activity Details, not View activity relationships in the Activity Table, not View activity relationships in Trace logic, not Display the Gantt Chart, not Trace Logic, not the Activity Network view, not TASKPRED, not EPPM Gantt View Format Relationship Lines copied onto Professional, and not Microsoft Gantt link lines.
Oracle does print a how-to titled View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart. Oracle does not print a menu item named View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart. Do not invent View > View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart.
Oracle View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart (Professional):
- "The Gantt Chart displays a graphical view of all activity relationships for a specific activity filter."
- "Click the Layout Options bar, then choose Show on Top, Gantt Chart. If no relationship lines are displayed for activity dependencies you have defined, change the Gantt Chart bar options to show relationship lines or click on the Top Layout toolbar."
- "A line connecting two activity bars indicates an activity relationship. The point at which the line begins on the predecessor bar and the point at which the line ends on the successor bar indicates the type of activity relationship the line represents."
- "A finish to start relationship line begins on the right side of the predecessor activity's bar and ends on the left side of the successor activity's bar."
- "A finish to finish relationship line begins on the right side of the predecessor activity's bar and ends on the right side of the successor activity's bar."
- "A start to finish relationship line begins on the left side of the predecessor activity's bar and ends on the right side of the successor activity's bar."
- "A start to start relationship line begins on the left side of the predecessor activity's bar and ends on the left side of the successor activity's bar."
Quote those. Quote activity bars, predecessor activity's bar, successor activity's bar, begins on, ends on, right side, left side, and specific activity filter. Quote finish to start / finish to finish / start to finish / start to start as that page printed them. Do not invent that this how-to printed FS / FF / SF / SS codes, Finish-to-Start hyphens, or a stored pred_type. Do not collapse Create's If you draw from the right edge onto this page's begins on the right side.
That how-to fetched prints no "Choose Project, Activities," no Double-click, no relationship pointer, no click and hold, no hint window, no comments, no Delete, no Yes, no OK, no lag days, no Relationship Type picker, no Assign, no Save, no circle, no Create Relationship, no privilege, and no menu item named View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart. It does print Layout Options bar → Show on Top, Gantt Chart (create / edit / delete Gantt how-tos fetched do not). Do not invent the missing items on this how-to.
Show Relationships is a different command. Bar Chart Options General tab / Top Layout toolbar show-or-hide of relationship lines. Oracle Show or hide: View, Barchart Options → Options → General tab; mark or clear Show Relationships. "You can also click on the Top Layout toolbar to show or hide relationship lines." The view how-to's missing-lines sentence points at that decoration. Hiding lines is not this view. This view is not the checkbox. See Show Relationships.
Create relationships in the Gantt Chart is a different how-to. Draw from the edge of the predecessor activity bar (relationship pointer: "a vertical single-ended arrow") to the successor. Four If you draw from the right edge… sentences. Hint window. Comments on Details tabs. That page is create. This page is view. It does not print the relationship pointer or "click and hold." See Create Relationships in the Gantt Chart.
Edit relationships in the Gantt Chart is a different how-to. Oracle: "Double-click the line representing the relationship you want to edit." "Select a different relationship type." "Specify a new number of lag days." "Click OK." That page is edit. This page does not print Double-click, relationship type, lag days, or OK. See Edit Relationships in the Gantt Chart.
Delete relationships in the Gantt Chart is a different how-to. Oracle: "Double-click the line representing the relationship you want to delete." "Click Delete." "Click Yes." That page is delete. This page does not print Double-click, Delete, or Yes. See Delete Relationships in the Gantt Chart.
View activity relationships in the Activity Network is a different how-to. "The Activity Network displays a graphical view of all activity relationships for a specific activity filter." "In the hierarchy table on the left side of the Activity Network, select the hierarchy element whose activity relationships you want to view. The Activity Network table displays the selected hierarchy element's activities." "A line connecting two activity boxes indicates an activity relationship. The point at which the line begins on the predecessor box and the point at which the line ends on the successor box indicates the type of the activity relationship." Same four mappings worded as begins/ends on the right or left side of the box (predecessor's box / successor's box). Quote activity boxes, hierarchy table, and type of the activity relationship. This Gantt page prints activity bars, Layout Options bar Show on Top, type of activity relationship (no the), and the Gantt Chart bar options / Top Layout toolbar missing-lines sentence. The Network view how-to fetched prints no Layout Options bar / Show on Top / Gantt Chart bar options / Top Layout toolbar tip. Do not collapse them.
View activity relationships in Activity Details is a different how-to. Select the activity → Layout Options bar → Show on Bottom, Activity Details → Predecessors or Relationships tab (predecessors) / Successors or Relationships tab (successors). That is tabs, not Gantt bars.
View activity relationships in the Activity Table is a different how-to. View, Columns (or Layout Options bar → Columns) → Predecessor Details / Successor Details. That is columns, not Gantt bars.
View activity relationships in Trace logic is a different how-to. Select the activity → Layout Options bar → Show on Bottom, Trace Logic. "Trace Logic displays a graphical view of only the selected activity's relationships." Blue border; left = predecessors; right = successors. That is selected-activity Show on Bottom, not this Show on Top Gantt. See Trace Logic.
Display the Gantt Chart is a different how-to. View, Show on Top or Show on Bottom, Gantt Chart / Layout Options bar / Top Layout toolbar. Activities, Projects, or WBS windows. That opens the Gantt. It does not print "a line connecting two activity bars" or the four begins/ends sentences. Do not collapse Display onto this view how-to.
The Activity Network view is a different object. Show-on-Top WBS diagram of activities and relationships. Box positions save as .ANP. It is not this Gantt view how-to. See Activity Network.
Trace Logic is a different view. Show on Bottom / selected-activity pred/succ chain. It is not this Gantt view. See Trace Logic.
Oracle Viewing activity relationships lists five separate how-tos: Activity Table, Activity Details, Gantt Chart, Activity Network, Trace logic. Do not collapse those titles.
Oracle Activities window Working with activity relationships names View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart and View activity relationships in the Activity Network as separate tasks (with Create / Edit / Delete Gantt and Network, Add / Change / Remove predecessor and successor, and View in Activity Details / Trace logic). Working with the Gantt Chart names View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart and Show or hide relationship lines in the Gantt Chart as separate tasks. Linking Activities with Relationships lists Create / Edit / Delete Gantt and Network. It does not list the View how-tos. Do not invent that it did. Do not collapse those titles.
Add/Edit/Delete Activity Relationships privilege (Professional project profile): "Determines whether the profile will enable users to create, modify, and remove activity relationships assigned to projects." The View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart how-to fetched does not print that privilege. Do not invent that it did.
The Professional View / Show / Create / Edit / Delete Gantt pages fetched do not print driving / non-driving, solid vs dashed, critical relationship color, or a line-style / color picker. Do not invent them.
Professional vs EPPM
Professional — the how-to above. Layout Options bar → Show on Top, Gantt Chart. Line connecting two activity bars. Four begins on / ends on the right side / left side of the predecessor activity's bar / successor activity's bar. Missing-lines sentence points at Gantt Chart bar options / Top Layout toolbar. That page fetched prints no Save, no circle, no Create Relationship, no Gantt Settings, and no Non-driving relationships.
EPPM web — do not copy Professional Layout Options bar / Show on Top / four "A finish to start relationship line begins on the right side…" sentences onto EPPM.
Oracle EPPM Gantt View Format (G48897) is view chrome, not this Professional how-to. Relationship Lines: "Enable you to view the relationship between different activities. The point at which the relationship line touches each Gantt bar, whether the beginning or end, determines the type of relationship between the activities." Gantt Settings Relationships: "Show or hide relationships between activities in the Gantt." "Hovering directly to the left or right of an activity bar when relationship lines are visible in the Gantt will display: Create Relationship." That page fetched does not print Layout Options bar, Show on Top, specific activity filter, or the four Professional begins on the right side / activity's bar sentences. Do not invent that it did. Do not invent that Professional printed beginning or end, Create Relationship, or Gantt Settings.
Oracle EPPM Configuring Activity View Gantt Chart: Customize View → Gantt tab; "Select the Relationship lines option to show lines between activities on the Gantt." "Select the Non-driving relationships option to draw lines between activities on the Gantt even where the relationship doesn't affect the successor's dates." That page fetched does not print Layout Options bar, Show on Top, or the four Professional begins/ends sentences. Do not invent that it did. EPPM Non-driving relationships is an EPPM Gantt option. Do not copy it onto Professional.
Oracle EPPM Working with the Activity Gantt Chart: "view the progression and relationships of activities or projects on a timeline." That page names the data-date line, vertical sightlines, non-work shading, and Progress Spotlight. It does not print the Relationship lines / Non-driving relationships checkboxes or the four Professional begins/ends sentences. Do not invent that it did.
Primavera Cloud is a different product. Do not copy Cloud Gantt circle / popover onto P6 Professional or EPPM.
XER
None. Oracle's project XER map TOC has no VIEWGANTT / VIEWREL / GANTTVIEW / VIEW_GANTT_RELATIONSHIP / VIEWRELATIONSHIP table. This how-to does not write TASKPRED. Do not invent a view %T. Do not treat a TASKPRED row as "the planner used View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart."
TASKPRED is the relationship. Columns that match names Oracle used elsewhere (Oracle XER labels): pred_type (Relationship Type), lag_hr_cnt (Lag), comments (Comments), task_id (Successor), pred_task_id (Predecessor). The View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart how-to fetched does not print those column names, a stored pred_type code, lag, or Comments. It prints finish to start / finish to finish / start to finish / start to start from where the line begins and ends on the activity's bar. See TASKPRED (Activity Relationships) and FS / SS / FF / SF + Lag (Planner Language).
Layouts travel as .plf, not in a project XER. See Filters and Layouts Are a View, Not the Schedule.
A Viewer parse of one XER cannot reconstruct whether the planner used this Gantt view how-to, had Show Relationships on, used Network view, Activity Details, Activity Table columns, Trace Logic, or EPPM Gantt View Format Relationship Lines.
Microsoft Project
Desktop Project has link lines. They are not the same object.
Microsoft Work with the Gantt Chart view: "If you have linked tasks together, the Gantt bars are connected on the chart with link lines."
Microsoft Format the bar chart of a Gantt Chart view: "When you link tasks, Project displays link lines on a Gantt Chart view that show the task dependencies of the linked tasks. You can change the way link lines appear or hide the link lines." Gantt Chart Format > Layout. "Under Links, select the type of link line that you want to use. If you choose the first type of link, then the link lines will not appear."
Microsoft Change a task link Hide task links: View > Gantt Chart, Format > Layout, Links section, "the option on the left (the one with no link lines)." "This trick doesn't remove the dependencies between your tasks. It just hides the lines from view." That hide is closer to P6 Show Relationships than to this view how-to.
Quote link lines, Gantt bars are connected, and Format > Layout. P6 printed a line connecting two activity bars, Layout Options bar, Show on Top, Gantt Chart, and four begins on / ends on the right side / left side sentences. Do not collapse them. Microsoft pages fetched print no Layout Options bar, no Show on Top, and no "A finish to start relationship line begins on the right side of the predecessor activity's bar." Do not invent that they did. They are not the same command as P6 View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart. Do not map P6 Gantt view how-to to MSP Gantt link lines / Format > Layout / Hide task links as the same command. Do not claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.
Don't
- Treat this as Show Relationships, Create / Edit / Delete relationships in the Gantt Chart, View activity relationships in the Activity Network, View in Activity Details / Activity Table / Trace logic, Display the Gantt Chart, Trace Logic, the Activity Network view, TASKPRED, EPPM Gantt View Format Relationship Lines copied onto Professional, or MSP link lines.
- Collapse Network activity boxes / hierarchy table / type of the activity relationship / predecessor's box onto this how-to's activity bars / Layout Options bar Show on Top / type of activity relationship / predecessor activity's bar.
- Collapse Create's If you draw from the right edge / relationship pointer / hint window onto this page's begins on the right side.
- Treat hide (clear Show Relationships) as this view, or treat this view as the Show Relationships checkbox / Top Layout toolbar toggle.
- Invent that this how-to printed FS / FF / SF / SS codes, Finish-to-Start hyphens, a stored
pred_type, Double-click, lag days, Delete, Yes, OK, a relationship pointer, click and hold, a hint window, comments, Save, a circle, Create Relationship, or a menu item named View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart. - Invent that the view how-to printed Add/Edit/Delete Activity Relationships.
- Invent that Linking Activities with Relationships listed this View how-to.
- Copy Professional Layout Options bar / Show on Top / four "begins on the right side of the predecessor activity's bar" sentences onto EPPM, or copy EPPM Relationship Lines / beginning or end / Gantt Settings Relationships / Create Relationship / Non-driving relationships onto Professional.
- Invent that EPPM Gantt View Format or Working with the Activity Gantt Chart printed the four Professional begins/ends sentences.
- Invent driving / non-driving, solid vs dashed, critical relationship color, or a line-style / color picker on the Professional view how-to.
- Invent a VIEWGANTT / VIEWREL / GANTTVIEW / VIEW_GANTT_RELATIONSHIP XER table, or treat a TASKPRED row as "the planner used View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart."
- Claim a Viewer reconstructed that the planner last used this Gantt view how-to from an XER.
- Map P6 View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart to MSP Gantt link lines / Format > Layout / Hide task links as the same command.
- Invent that Microsoft printed the four Professional begins/ends sentences.
- Claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.
