What a planner means

View activity relationships in Activity Details is Oracle View activity relationships in Activity Details. Layout Options bar → Show on Bottom, Activity Details. Predecessors or Relationships tab for predecessors; Successors or Relationships tab for successors. It is a how-to. It is view. It is not stored as its own table. It does not create, edit, or delete a relationship. It is not Assign Predecessors, not Assign Successors, not Add predecessor relationships, not Add successor relationships, not Change predecessor relationships, not Change successor relationships, not Remove predecessor relationships, not Remove successor relationships, not View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart, not View activity relationships in the Activity Network, not View activity relationships in the Activity Table, not View activity relationships in Trace logic, not Display window details, not Customize Activity Details, not Change Predecessors tab columns, not Change Successors tab columns, not the Activity Details object copied onto this how-to, not the Predecessors / Successors / Relationships tab objects copied onto this how-to, not TASKPRED, not EPPM Relationships Detail Window / Configuring Predecessor Relationships copied onto Professional, and not Microsoft Task Information Predecessors tab.

Oracle does print a how-to titled View activity relationships in Activity Details. Oracle does not print a menu item named View activity relationships in Activity Details. Do not invent View > View activity relationships in Activity Details.

Oracle View activity relationships in Activity Details (Professional):

  • "Activity Details list the selected activity's relationships and details, such as activity type, in different tabs."
  • "Select the activity whose relationships you want to view."
  • "Click the Layout Options bar, then choose Show on Bottom, Activity Details."
  • "To view the selected activity's predecessors, click the Predecessors or Relationships tab."
  • "To view the selected activity's successors, click the Successors or Relationships tab."

Tip: "If the Predecessors, Successors, or Relationships tab is not displayed, click the Layout Options bar, then choose Bottom Layout Options and add the missing tab to the Display Tabs column list."

Tip: "To change the displayed columns within each tab, right-click anywhere in the tab, then choose Customize Predecessor Columns or Customize Successor Columns."

Quote those. Quote Layout Options bar, Show on Bottom, Activity Details, Predecessors or Relationships tab, Successors or Relationships tab, Bottom Layout Options, Display Tabs, Customize Predecessor Columns, Customize Successor Columns, and activity type. That how-to fetched prints no "Choose Project, Activities,", no Assign, no Remove, no Go To, no Double-click, no Relationship Type, no Lag, no Comments, no Yes, no OK, no Save, no finish to start / finish to finish / start to start / start to finish, no FS / FF / SF / SS codes, no Select Project, no privilege, no View > Show on Bottom > Details, no Bottom Layout toolbar, no Available Tabs, no Apply, and no menu item named View activity relationships in Activity Details. Do not invent those on this how-to.

Assign Predecessors / Add predecessor relationships is a different command. Edit > Assign > Predecessors / Details Assign / Assign Predecessors dialog. That page prints Assign, Select Project, Relationship Type / Lag / Comments. This page is view. It does not print Assign. See Assign Predecessors.

Assign Successors / Add successor relationships is a different command. Edit > Assign > Successors / Details Assign / Assign Successors dialog. This page does not print Assign. See Assign Successors.

Change predecessor relationships is a different how-to. Display Activity Details, Predecessors or Relationships tab; Assign / double-click Relationship Type / double-click Lag / Remove. This page does not print those actions. See Change Predecessor Relationships.

Change successor relationships is a different how-to. Display Activity Details, Successors or Relationships tab; Assign / double-click Relationship Type / double-click Lag / Remove. This page does not print those actions. See Change Successor Relationships.

Remove predecessor relationships / Remove successor relationships are different how-tos. Details Remove → Yes; those pages name Go To. This page fetched prints no Remove, no Yes, and no Go To.

View activity relationships in the Gantt Chart is a different how-to. Layout Options bar → Show on Top, Gantt Chart. "A line connecting two activity bars indicates an activity relationship." Four begins-on / ends-on activity's bar sentences. That is bars, not Details tabs. See View Activity Relationships in the Gantt Chart.

View activity relationships in the Activity Network is a different how-to. Hierarchy table on the left; "A line connecting two activity boxes indicates an activity relationship." Four begins-on / ends-on predecessor's box / successor's box sentences. That is boxes, not Details tabs. See View Activity Relationships in the Activity Network.

View activity relationships in the Activity Table is a different how-to. View, Columns (or Layout Options bar → Columns) → Predecessor Details / Successor Details. That is Activity Table columns, not Details tabs. Oracle's client_help file named view_activity_relationships_in_activity_details.htm is that Table how-to. This Details how-to is 19567.htm. Do not collapse the filenames.

View activity relationships in Trace logic is a different how-to. Layout Options bar → Show on Bottom, Trace Logic. "Trace Logic displays a graphical view of only the selected activity's relationships." Blue border; left = predecessors; right = successors. That is selected-activity Show on Bottom boxes, not Details tabs. See Trace Logic.

Display window details is a different how-to. "To display details for a window, such as Projects or Activities, choose View, Show on Bottom, Details, or click on the Bottom Layout toolbar." That opens details for many windows. This how-to prints Layout Options bar → Show on Bottom, Activity Details, then click relationship tabs. It does not print View > Show on Bottom > Details or the Bottom Layout toolbar. Do not collapse them.

The Activity Details object is a different page. "Use the Activity Details to view and edit detailed information about the selected activity." View and edit. That page lists many tabs (General, Status, Resources, Predecessors, Successors, Relationships, and others) and names Previous / Next / Activity / Activity Name / Project at the top of each tab. This how-to is view of relationships on three tabs. It fetched prints no Previous / Next and no "view and edit." Do not copy the object page onto this how-to.

The Predecessors tab / Successors tab / Relationships tab pages are different objects. Predecessors tab: "Use the Predecessors tab to add, edit, and remove predecessor relationships for the selected activity." Successors tab: "Use the Successors tab to add, edit, and remove successor relationships for the selected activity." Relationships tab: "Use this tab to view and manage predecessors and successors from a single Activity Details tab." "The Predecessor area functions identically to the Predecessor tab, and the Successor area functions identically to the Successor tab." "The data stored on the Relationships tab is synchronized with that on the Predecessors and Successors tabs." Those tab pages name Project ID, WBS, Activity ID, Activity Name, Relationship Type, Lag, Activity Status, Primary Resource, Assign, Remove, and Go To. This view how-to fetched prints no those column names and no Assign / Remove / Go To. Do not copy the tab objects onto this how-to.

Change Predecessors tab columns / Change Successors tab columns are different how-tos. The view how-to's customize-columns tip points at those. Change Predecessors tab columns: Display Activity Details, Predecessors or Relationships tab; right-click → Customize Predecessor Columns; Available Options / Selected Options; Default; Edit Column. Change Successors tab columns: Successors or Relationships tab; Customize Successor Columns. Customizing columns is not this view.

Customize Activity Details is a different how-to. "With Activity Details displayed in the Activities window, choose View, Bottom Layout Options." Available Tabs / Display Tabs; OK / Apply. The view how-to's missing-tab tip points at Layout Options bar → Bottom Layout Options and Display Tabs. Customize Activity Details prints View, Bottom Layout Options and Available Tabs. Do not collapse Layout Options bar onto View, Bottom Layout Options. Adding a tab is not this view.

Oracle View Menu Show on Bottom: "Enables you to choose the type of layout you want to display in the bottom portion of the active window. The available options correspond to the currently active window." Corresponding toolbar: Bottom Layout Toolbar. Bottom Layout Options: "Enables you to customize the tabs that display in Activity Details." Enabled when the active window is Activities. Corresponding toolbar: None. Those rows fetched print no menu item named View activity relationships in Activity Details. Do not invent one.

Oracle Bottom Layout Toolbar: "Shows or hides window details in the bottom layout. Use window details to view or edit information for the selected item." Corresponding menu: View > Show on Bottom > Details. That toolbar page fetched prints no View activity relationships in Activity Details. Do not invent that it did.

Oracle Activities window Working with activity relationships names View activity relationships in Activity Details as a separate task from Add / Change / Remove predecessor and successor, Create / Edit / Delete Gantt and Network, View Gantt, View Network, and View Trace logic. That list does not name View activity relationships in the Activity Table. Oracle Viewing activity relationships lists five separate how-tos: Activity Table, Activity Details, Gantt Chart, Activity Network, Trace logic. Do not collapse those titles. Working with Activity Details names View activity relationships in Activity Details separately from Change Predecessors tab columns, Change Successors tab columns, and Customize Activity Details. "To show or hide Activity Details, click the Layout Options bar, then choose Activity Details, or click on the Bottom Layout toolbar." That sentence prints no Show on Bottom. This how-to prints Layout Options bar → Show on Bottom, Activity Details. Do not collapse them.

Add/Edit/Delete Activity Relationships privilege (Professional project profile): "Determines whether the profile will enable users to create, modify, and remove activity relationships assigned to projects." The View activity relationships in Activity Details how-to fetched does not print that privilege. Do not invent that it did.

Professional vs EPPM

Professional — the how-to above. Layout Options bar → Show on Bottom, Activity Details. Predecessors or Relationships tab / Successors or Relationships tab. Missing-tab tip points at Bottom Layout Options / Display Tabs. Column tip points at Customize Predecessor Columns / Customize Successor Columns. That page fetched prints no Save, no Assign, no Relationship Type, no Lag, no Comments, and no Finish to Start default.

EPPM web — do not copy Professional Layout Options bar / Show on Bottom / Predecessors or Relationships tab / Customize Predecessor Columns onto EPPM.

Oracle EPPM Relationships Detail Window of the Activities Page (G48897) is configure, not this Professional view how-to. "Use this detail window to configure predecessor and successor relationships for the selected activity." Getting Here: Navigation Menu → Projects → Activities; select an activity; click the Relationships detail window. Add "Opens the Assign Relationships panel." Customize View. Go to Activity (Ctrl + Home). Search. Default columns that page names include Activity ID, Activity Name, Comments, Early Finish, Free Float, Lag, Late Start, Relationship Type, WBS Name. Relationship Type: hyphenated Finish to Start / Finish to Finish / Start to Start / Start to Finish; "This is the default activity relationship" on Finish to Start. Lag note: "Lag entered in a unit other than hours is converted to hours based on the predecessor activity's calendar." Tip: "If you have more than one activity or a grouping band selected, the detail window will not be visible." That page fetched does not print Layout Options bar, Show on Bottom, Activity Details, Predecessors or Relationships tab, or Customize Predecessor Columns. Do not invent that it did. Do not invent that Professional printed Relationships detail window, Save, Finish to Start as default, Comments, Early Finish, Free Float, Ctrl + Home, or hidden if more than one activity.

Oracle EPPM Configuring Predecessor Relationships (G48897): "Configure predecessor relationships to define lag or relationship type." Relationships detail window; "Add or remove columns as needed"; "Select an option or enter a value for each field"; Save. Oracle EPPM Configuring Successor Relationships is the successor counterpart with Save. Those pages are configure. This Professional how-to is view. Do not copy EPPM Save / configure onto Professional.

Primavera Cloud is a different product. Do not copy Cloud Relationships detail window / Assign Predecessors onto P6 Professional or EPPM.

XER

None. Oracle's project XER map TOC has no VIEWDETAILS / VIEWREL / ACTIVITYDETAILS / VIEW_DETAILS_RELATIONSHIP / VIEWRELATIONSHIP table. This how-to does not write TASKPRED. Do not invent a view %T. Do not treat a TASKPRED row as "the planner used View activity relationships in Activity Details."

TASKPRED is the relationship. Columns that match names Oracle used elsewhere (Oracle XER labels): pred_type (Relationship Type), lag_hr_cnt (Lag), comments (Comments), task_id (Successor), pred_task_id (Predecessor). The View activity relationships in Activity Details how-to fetched does not print those column names, a stored pred_type code, lag, or Comments. See TASKPRED (Activity Relationships) and FS / SS / FF / SF + Lag (Planner Language).

Layouts travel as .plf, not in a project XER. See Filters and Layouts Are a View, Not the Schedule.

A Viewer parse of one XER cannot reconstruct whether the planner used this Activity Details view how-to, View Gantt, View Network, View Activity Table columns, Trace Logic, Assign / Change on the same tabs, or EPPM Relationships detail window.

Microsoft Project

Desktop Project Change a task link — Task Information Predecessors tab:

  1. "Click View > Gantt Chart."
  2. "Double-click the Task Name field for the task you want to change."
  3. "Click the Predecessors tab."
  4. Change: "pick a link type from the Type column."
  5. Delete: "pick (None) from the Type column."
  6. Add: "click the Task Name field on the first blank row and pick from the list of tasks."

Microsoft Predecessors (task field): "The Predecessors field lists the task ID numbers for the predecessor tasks on which the task depends before it can be started or finished." Types: FS / FF / SS / SF.

Microsoft Link tasks: "If you are a Project Online subscriber, you can also select specific tasks to link to using a drop-down box from the Predecessors or Successors column." Change or remove: Task tab → Information → Predecessors tab.

Quote Predecessors tab, Predecessors field, and Link tasks. Do not collapse them. Microsoft pages fetched print no Layout Options bar, no Show on Bottom, no Activity Details, and no Predecessors or Relationships tab. They are not the same command as P6 View activity relationships in Activity Details. Do not map P6 View activity relationships in Activity Details to MSP Task Information Predecessors tab / Predecessors field / Link tasks as the same command. Do not claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.
