Change an Activity's WBS Assignment
Change an activity's WBS assignment is Activities General tab WBS → Select; not Edit WBS

What a planner means
Change an activity's WBS assignment is Oracle Change an activity's work breakdown structure assignment. Oracle does not print a menu item named Change an activity's WBS assignment. It is Project, Activities, select the activity, Display Activity Details, General tab, WBS field, click, select the WBS element, Select. It is a command. It is not stored data. It is not Edit WBS, not Add WBS, not Add WBS from Template, not Cut Activity, not Copy Activity, not Cut WBS, not Delete WBS, not Add Activity, not Fill Down, not Define general activity information, not Change activity information in the Activity Table, not Assign a calendar to an activity, not a WBS Summary activity, and not Primavera Cloud Assign an Activity to a WBS.
Oracle Change an activity's work breakdown structure assignment (Professional):
- "Choose Project, Activities."
- "Select the activity whose WBS assignment you want to define or change."
- "Display Activity Details, then click the General tab."
- "In the WBS field, click, then select the WBS element to which you want to assign the selected activity."
- "Click the Select button."
Quote those five steps. The how-to fetched prints no note, no privilege, no multi-select (Ctrl+click / Shift+click), and no dialog title. Do not invent a printed item titled Change an activity's WBS assignment. Do not invent a Select WBS dialog name. The sibling how-to Assign a calendar to an activity names Select Activity Calendar dialog box. This how-to fetched does not. Do not invent that it did. Do not invent that this how-to opens Copy WBS Options, the Move toolbar, or Merge or Delete. Do not invent that changing WBS changes dates, calendar, activity type, or PROJWBS.
Oracle General tab - Activity Details: "Use the General tab to define general information for the selected activity, including the activity's duration type, activity type, percent complete type, priority level, assigned work breakdown structure (WBS) element, and cost account." WBS — "The selected activity's assigned work breakdown structure (WBS) element. To assign a new WBS element to the selected activity, click." Quote that field. The change how-to and this WBS sentence are this command. Do not invent other General-tab fields as steps of this how-to.
Responsible Manager on that same General tab is "The name of the organizational breakdown structure (OBS) element assigned to the selected activity's WBS element." That is the WBS element's OBS, not a field this how-to assigns. See OBS. The change how-to fetched does not print Responsible Manager. Do not invent that it did. Do not invent that changing WBS writes PROJWBS.obs_id.
Display Activity Details — the change how-to prints that phrase and does not print a menu path for it. Oracle Display window details: "To display details for a window, such as Projects or Activities, choose View, Show on Bottom, Details, or click on the Bottom Layout toolbar." Oracle Activities window: "To show or hide Activity Details, click the Layout Options bar, then choose Activity Details, or click on the Bottom Layout toolbar." Quote both. Do not collapse View, Show on Bottom, Details / Bottom Layout toolbar onto Layout Options bar → Activity Details. Do not collapse either onto Edit WBS Display Options bar → Show on Bottom, WBS Details.
Oracle Activity Details: "Use the Activity Details to view and edit detailed information about the selected activity. The Activity Details appear in the Activities window." First tab listed: General tab - Activity Details. Customize is Display Options bar → Bottom Layout Options or right-click Customize Activity Details. That is which tabs show, not this WBS Select.
Edit WBS is a different command. Oracle Edit a work breakdown structure element: Project, WBS → select the element → Move toolbar arrows and/or Display Options bar → Show on Bottom, WBS Details. That edits a PROJWBS node. It is not Activities General tab WBS → Select. See Edit WBS. Do not rewrite that note.
Add WBS is a different command. Edit > Add of a child WBS element. See Add WBS.
Add WBS from Template is a different command. EPPM Context / Row Actions → Add WBS from Template. See Add WBS from Template.
Cut Activity is a different command. Edit > Cut / Paste of activities onto a WBS band (Activity Table) or group band (Activity Network). That how-to does not print General tab WBS → Select. See Cut Activity. Do not rewrite that note.
Copy Activity is a different command. Edit > Copy / Paste plus Copy Activity Options. See Copy Activity.
Cut WBS is a different command. Edit > Cut / Paste of a WBS element. Oracle: "When you cut and paste a WBS element, the element's activity assignments are also pasted." That moves a PROJWBS node. See Cut WBS.
Delete WBS is a different command. Edit > Delete plus Merge or Delete. Merge reassigns activities to the parent WBS as a side effect of deleting the node. That how-to does not print Activities General tab WBS → Select. See Delete WBS.
Add Activity is a different command. Edit > Add in Activities. See Add Activity.
Define general activity information is a different how-to. Oracle: Project, Activities → select → Display Activity Details → "click each tab in Activity Details and enter the corresponding information." Tip: Layout Options bar → Bottom Layout Options. That how-to does not print the WBS field or Select.
Change activity information in the Activity Table is a different how-to. Oracle: "To change activity information, double-click the information you want to change." Note: "You may need the required security privileges to edit certain activity information." That page fetched does not print WBS. Do not invent that double-click in the Activity Table is this command.
Assign a calendar to an activity is a different how-to. Same Activities / Display Activity Details / General tab path, then Activity Calendar field → Select. Oracle names Select Activity Calendar dialog box on that page. It is not the WBS field.
Fill Down is a different command. Edit > Fill Down copies first-selected-row text down a column. Oracle named "some" table-format columns, "text," and one activity name example. Do not invent that Fill Down can or cannot write WBS. See Fill Down Copies First-Selected-Row Text Down a Table Column.
Global Change is a different command. Tools > Global Change If/Then. The Global Change pages fetched do not print WBS as a Then field. Do not invent that Global Change can or cannot write WBS. See Global Change.
WBS Summary is not this command. WBS Summary is a TASK activity type. It is not the owning PROJWBS node and not this Select. See P6 Activity Types (Six) — Not MSP Task Type and P6 WBS.
Primavera Cloud Assign an Activity to a WBS is a different product. That page names WBS Name on Activity Details and a Program Activities cross-project move. Do not copy those Cloud sentences onto P6 Professional or EPPM.
Professional vs EPPM
Professional — the how-to above. Do not invent a printed item titled Change an activity's WBS assignment.
EPPM web — Oracle Configuring General Activity Information: "You can configure some of the general information for activities, including Activity Type, Duration Type, and Percent Complete Type." Steps: Navigation Menu expand Projects and click Activities → select an activity and click the General detail window → "configure the activity details to represent the information you want to display for that activity" → Save. That how-to fetched does not print WBS, Select, or Change an activity's work breakdown structure assignment. Do not invent that it did.
Oracle General Detail Window of the Activities Page: WBS field — "The name of the WBS element associated with the activity." Getting Here: Navigation Menu expand Projects and click Activities; select an activity and click the General detail window. Quote that field. That page fetched does not print a Select button or a change-assignment how-to.
Do not copy Professional Project, Activities / Display Activity Details / General tab / WBS field click / Select button onto EPPM General detail window / Save. Do not copy EPPM Click Save / Activity Type–Duration Type–Percent Complete Type list onto Professional. Do not copy Primavera Cloud WBS Name / Program Activities onto EPPM.
XER
None. Oracle’s project XER map TOC has no CHANGEWBS / CHANGE_WBS / CHANGEACTWBS / CHANGEACTIVITYWBS table. After the command you see a changed TASK.wbs_id (Oracle label: WBS). Do not treat a changed TASK.wbs_id as “the planner used Change an activity's WBS assignment.”
TASK is the activity. TASK.wbs_id is the owning WBS. PROJWBS is the WBS node. See P6 WBS. This command writes TASK.wbs_id. It does not edit a PROJWBS row. Edit WBS writes PROJWBS. Delete WBS Merge can also leave a changed TASK.wbs_id. Cut Activity can also leave the activity under a different WBS band.
A Viewer parse of one XER cannot reconstruct whether the planner used Activities General tab WBS → Select, Cut Activity, Delete WBS Merge, typed a new WBS, imported, or never changed it.
Microsoft Project
Desktop Project has no WBS table. Microsoft indent makes a subtask; the row above becomes a summary. Outdent promotes it. Microsoft WBS codes are outline numbers on tasks (Project → WBS → Define Code / Renumber). That is outline indent / a task WBS field, not TASK.wbs_id Select onto a PROJWBS node. Do not map P6 Change an activity's WBS assignment to MSP Indent / Outdent, Move, or WBS Define Code / Renumber as the same command. Do not claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.
Don't
- Treat Change an activity's WBS assignment as Edit WBS, Add WBS, Add WBS from Template, Cut Activity, Copy Activity, Cut WBS, Delete WBS, Add Activity, Fill Down, Define general activity information, Change activity information in the Activity Table, Assign a calendar to an activity, Global Change, a WBS Summary activity, or Primavera Cloud Assign an Activity to a WBS.
- Invent a printed menu item titled Change an activity's WBS assignment.
- Invent a Select WBS dialog title, a privilege, or multi-select. Oracle printed Select button and the activity (singular).
- Invent that this how-to printed Responsible Manager, Activity Calendar, or other General-tab fields as steps.
- Invent that this how-to opens Copy WBS Options, the Move toolbar, or Merge or Delete, or that changing WBS changes dates, calendar, activity type, or
PROJWBS. - Invent that changing WBS writes
PROJWBS.obs_id. - Collapse View, Show on Bottom, Details / Bottom Layout toolbar onto Layout Options bar → Activity Details, or collapse either onto Edit WBS Display Options bar → Show on Bottom, WBS Details.
- Invent that double-click in the Activity Table is this command. That page did not print WBS.
- Invent that Fill Down or Global Change can or cannot write WBS.
- Invent a CHANGEWBS XER table, or treat a changed
TASK.wbs_idas “the planner used Change an activity's WBS assignment.” - Copy Professional Project, Activities / Display Activity Details / General tab / Select onto EPPM General detail window / Save, or copy EPPM Configuring General Activity Information (Activity Type / Duration Type / Percent Complete Type / Save) onto Professional.
- Copy Primavera Cloud Assign an Activity to a WBS / WBS Name / Program Activities onto P6.
- Claim a Viewer reconstructed this command from an XER.
- Map P6 Change an activity's WBS assignment to MSP Indent / Outdent or WBS Define Code as the same command.
- Claim MPXJ writes a real MPP.
